Youth Advisory Committee

Meeting Schedule:  Generally meets first Monday of the month September through June.  Special meetings called as needed and during July and August.  Regular meeting held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at City Hall.

The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) consists of up to 30 high school youth representatives and is tasked with providing input to the City Council and City Administration regarding programs, services, projects and issues.  Topics addressed by past Youth Advisory Committees include:
  • Drug abuse and underage drinking prevention
  • Summer Youth Activities
  • Environmental Awareness

Special Events
The Youth Advisory Committee is very active in the community and organizes several city-wide events.  Examples include the annual Earth Day festival, Snow Party and Public Safety Movie Night.  Among other items, the YAC also participates in Sticker Shock which is a program designed to discourage under-age drinking, volunteers at the Portage Community Center and learns about the role of local government.

Youth in Government Participant Sign-Up
Please provide the requested information below and click submit. A parent/guardian release form will be mailed to applicants and must be completed and returned prior to participation in the program. The primary appointment period is in the month of May. However, there may be additional appointment opportunities in October and January. Applications are always welcome but will be held until the next available appointment period. 

Terms begin July 1, 2018.
