Canoe / Surrey Livery

Please note that during the 2012 summer season, the Celery Flats Livery will not be open for drop-in use.  However, group reservations of five or more canoes will be accommodated.  Please call the Portage Department of Parks and Recreation at (269) 329-4522 to make reservations.

The preferred times for starting your canoe trip are 9:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.  Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your start time for registration and plan on one adult chaperone per canoe.  Each canoe seats two or three people and has a fee of $18. Personal flotation devices are included in this fee.

Fees are payable by cash or check (no credit or debit cards) at time of registration.  It will take approximately one hour from registration to finish the trip at the Milham landing.  Occasionally, low water conditions may require getting out of the boat and pushing the canoes for 100 to 200 yards along the creek bottom.

Rides from the Milham take out landing back to the Celery Flats parking lot are not provided. Your group will have the opportunity for additional exercise and nature viewing while walking back — a distance of about  1½ miles on the paved PCBP trail — or you can plan ahead and leave a vehicle at the Milham Park entrance as well as the Celery Flats parking area.  A minimum of 2½ hours is needed between groups if more than 12 boats are needed to allow Park Rangers enough time to pick up boats and prepare them for use by the next group.
