The women and men of the Portage Department of Public Safety consistently strive to improve the safety of Portage citizens, with special attention to the youngest of residents. As part of these efforts, free child safety seat inspections are offered twice monthly at Fire Station #1 located at 7830 Shaver Road.

Members of the Police and Fire divisions, along with a community volunteer, serve as child passenger safety technicians, certified by SafeKids Worldwide. The technician will check for proper fit and installation or provide help installing the seat. For more information, or to schedule a child safety seat inspection/installation, please call the Fire Division at 329-4487.
