The Weather Channel Picks Up Annual Paint the Plow Contest Story

The City of Portage Department of Public Services, in partnership with Portage Public Schools, sponsored the second annual “Paint the Plow” contest. Students from several Portage schools painted city snowplows with original artwork to represent their individual schools. A plow was delivered to each of the five participating schools in May and were painted by art students.

The completed plows were on display at the corner of South Westnedge Avenue and Library Lane, across from City Hall during the voting period. Following online voting and paper ballot voting at the Portage District Library, the results are shown below. Congratulations to the art classes at Portage Central Middle School and Portage Central High School for submitting the winning entries!

The painted plows will be used on snow plow trucks during the winter months, as well as displayed at events within the community to enhance public awareness of the Department of Public Services snowplowing fleet and the art programs at Portage Public Schools.  A special thank you to Paint Recycling Services, Portage Public Schools and the Portage District Library for the support of this community project.
