Public Media Network Channel Lineup Changed June 14
On June 14, Charter Communications moved Public Media Network channels 19, 20, and 21 to join PMN channels 95 and 99, thereby providing a continuous block of public, education & government (PEG) programming – Channels 95, 96, 97, 98 & 99 -- on its basic cable service tier.
Beginning June 14, coverage of municipal government meetings along with such community programming staples as “Doggie in the Window,” “Monday Night Live," and “Chuck Bentley Presents” made the move to the new channel lineup for Public Media Network. Public Media Network’s 5 public, education & government (PEG) channels previously straddled both ends of Charter Communications’ basic cable service level with channels 19, 20 and 21 at one end, and 95 and 99 at the other. As of June 14, all of PMN’s channels reside together in a Public Media “Neighborhood” consisting of channels 95, 96, 97, 98 and 99.
The lineup change is part of Charter Communications’ larger efforts to provide additional HD channels to its cable customers. While this change affects where to find PMN’s Government access channel (moving from 21 to 98) and two Public access channels (moving from 19, 20 to 96, 97), scheduled programming days and times remain unchanged. It should also be noted that Public Media Network’s 5 PEG channels are available concurrently on Charter Communications digital channels 990, 991, 992, 993 & 994. However, a Charter receiver is required to view the digital channels.
Public Media Network is a community media resource serving the municipalities of Comstock, Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo Twp, Oshtemo, Parchment and Portage. In addition to its 5 PEG channels, PMN also manages a community radio station, WKDS 89.9 FM. PMN offers regularly scheduled media production workshops and provides free use of equipment and facilities to help community media producers share their “voices” through PMN’s television and radio distribution avenues.
