Zoning Board of Appeals
The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) was created so that the objectives of the Zoning Ordinance are met, public safety secured, and substantial justice is done. There are seven members and two alternate members on the ZBA, and the Board is authorized by the City and Village Zoning Act. All hearings are open to the public and all property owners within 300 feet of the premises in question are notified prior to the public hearings that come before the ZBA. The powers and jurisdiction of the ZBA are specified in the City of Portage Zoning Ordinance (Section 42-620-42-623) and include the granting of variances, interpretations, temporary uses and other appeals as authorized in the ordinance.
Zoning Board of Appeals agendas will be posted the Monday before each Monday meeting. Minutes will posted once approved by the board.
