Recreation & Cultural Programs in Portage

Celery Flats Interpretative Center and Historical Area is a treasure in the center of Portage, where the past of the city has been preserved for its citizens to enjoy, and where a stimulating repertoire of cultural activities provide four seasons of enjoyment.

Here citizens can learn about the history and heritage of Portage and enjoy some of the community’s architectural treasures, including the oldest private city residence, commercial building and a renovated 1856 schoolhouse. The creation of this historical park setting is a way the City of Portage helps connect citizens to their heritage and their community.

On the grounds of the Historical Area, the Hayloft Theatre and outdoor amphitheatre provide venues for cultural opportunities with performance calendars extending from June through September.

Nearby beautiful Portage Central Park, overlooking Portage Creek, is a popular site for passive recreation and cultural activities. Central Park is home to the well-attended Summer Entertainment Series, which draws tens of thousands of guests each season.

Whether your seasonal favorite is listening to a summer starlight symphony with friends and family, or ice skating with the kids in winter, the City of Portage has opportunities throughout the year.
