    Holiday cards delivered by November 7, 4 PM to Department of Public Works (7719 South Westnedge Avenue)

    Trees and cards will be displayed at the Celery Flats Historical Area (7335 Garden Lane) for the Holiday season

    Area groups, families and organizations create your own personalized seasonal "cards" for the Holiday Card walk in the Celery Flats Historical Area. Cards should depict a winter, non-denominational, holiday theme, painted on a 4’ x 8’ sheet of plywood; minimum ½ inch thick, painted white on the backside and able to withstand outdoor weather conditions. The cards will be installed in an upright (vertical) position. Cards should be delivered by November 7 and can be picked up after January 9, 2023. Any cards remaining after January 25 may be disposed of by the city. Holiday Trees are available again this year for local businesses and organizations to decorate, adding to the festive atmosphere of the Celery Flats Historical Area. Contact Portage Parks & Recreation by November 1 at (269) 329-4522 for more information and to reserve a tree (while supplies last).

    Learn to make a mini glass pumpkin with John Rath from Left Brain Hot Glass. Within 75 minutes, after you create your unique mini pumpkin, you will take it home to enjoy it for years to come! All materials and safety equipment will be provided. Registration is required by October 1. Please note: glass blowing sessions will occur within a ten-minute window. While you are welcome to stay for the entire four-hour glass blowing session, to see all the pumpkins and their designs go through the entire process, you will be scheduled for a specific time within the five-hour block to create your pumpkin project.   12. Junior Ranger Club - Earn-A-Badge Workshop, Nature

    The Junior Ranger Club is an activity-based program that helps aspiring park rangers learn how to be wildlife stewards. Junior Rangers are usually between the ages of 5 to 13, although people of all ages may participate. This program provides families with the opportunity to explore the Portage Park system. Program activities are available online, year-round. There are eight different badges that can be earned by completing specific activities: arts, endurance, health, history, nature, science, service, and survival. Check out portagemi.gov/725/Junior-Ranger-Club to get started. Once a month, Portage Parks & Recreation offers Earn-A-Badge workshops for anyone wishing to work on badges. During Earn-A-Badge workshops, a Junior Ranger may bring an adult and together, work on badge-themed activities. These programs are free, include supplies and are led by Parks & Recreation staff.

    The City of Portage Compost Facility will be open on Saturday, October 22 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Portage residents may drop off leaves bagged in biodegradable paper bags and brush. Brush and leaves must be separated or they will not be accepted. Public Works staff will be on-site to direct residents to the appropriate location to deposit materials. The compost facility is located on Oakland Drive, just south of West Osterhout Avenue.
