Updates Coming Soon to Online RegistrationWe want to inform you that there will be an update to MyActiveCenter (MAC), the system we use for online registration. The updated site will have a new look and we hope that our users will find it more user-friendly and easier to use. If you already use MAC for online registration, you can watch this video for an overview of the updates and changes. If you are new to using MAC, you can watch this video that provides an introduction to the system. Please remember that you must be a member of the Portage Zhang Senior Center and have a keytag that provides your ID number to access the system. You should see the updated MAC site early next week. If you have any questions about the online system, please reach out to a PZSC staff member. We are here to assist you.

Euchre Group Expands to Sundays!Exciting news! We are thrilled to announce that we are now offering Euchre on Sundays due to popular demand, starting September 8! Ceramics: Sgraffito Tiles Tuesday, August 6 1 – 3 PM $30 Members / $35 Non-Members Instructed by: Kimberly Barrett Have you always wanted to try your hand at ceramics? Join us as ceramicist Kimberly Barrett teaches this beginner class on the Italian art of sgraffito! Together, we will look at sgraffito style ceramics, discuss how this technique is applied on clay with underglazes. We will walk through the clay process, and students will try different clay tools and learn hands on how they can be used to scrape away underglaze to create their own sgraffito ceramic tile. Final pieces will be bisque fired, coated with clear gloss and glaze fired by the instructor. To register call (269) 329-4555

BeSMART Gun Safety PresentationThursday, August 8 2 – 3:30 PM Free and Open to the Public Are you a gun owner? Do you know someone who is? If so, please register to attend this very important program on gun safety to prevent shootings by children. The Be SMART campaign was launched in 2015 to promote responsible gun ownership in order to reduce the deaths, injuries and trauma that can result when a child or teen is able to access a gun. Clay Slab Mugs / Cups Two Day/Time Choices:Tuesday, August 13, 1 – 3 PM $35 Members / $40 Non-Members Instructed by: Kimberly Barrett Join ceramicist Kim Barrett who will lead you through the process of creating your very own hand built ceramic slab mug / cup. This project should only take two hours of working time in which you will construct and embellish your slab mug. You’ll then choose from a select group of glazes to be completed by the instructor. No previous knowledge necessary. *Please note: Ceramic clay is very different from polymer clay and air-dry clay. After around a week of drying time, your mug/cup will be fired & glazed by our instructor. At a later date, you will pick up and enjoy your own usable work of art. Fun Walks - New Times for Summer!Wednesday, August 2110 AM – 12 PMFree- Call to register at (269) 329 – 4555Join us and other PZSC members for a fun walk through Portage. Plan to meet at 10 AM to sign in at the South Parking Lot at Portage Creek Bicentennial Park. Group Leader Lynn will have a sign held up so people can see where to gather. Walkers can complete the whole route of about 3 miles round trip or turn back at any time. The walk will begin at 10:15 AM. Be sure to wear comfortable and sturdy shoes, and sunblock is recommended. It is hot in August, so be sure to have hydration! See you there!

ThinkFirst to Prevent Falls Thursday, August 221 – 3:30 PMFree- Call to register at 269-329-4555 ThinkFirst to Prevent Falls is a free two-hour presentation on the basics of fall prevention for older adults. Topics covered include fear of falling, safety inside the home, community safety, exercise and many more. Participants are given resources for more extensive classes, exercises classes and other supporting programs to take advantage of in their community. This program is generously provided through Bronson Methodist Hospital.

REMINDER: Cancellation/ Refund Policy for Classes & ProgramsPlease make sure to register early for all programs and classes offered by PZSC to ensure you get a spot and to avoid the cancellation of classes due to low enrollment. Effective immediately, the PZSC Cancellation Policy requires a 72-business hour (3 days) notice for all cancellations of classes and programs. If you need to cancel your reservation in a class, please do so at least 72-business hours in advance of the scheduled start time. Failure to provide the required notice will result in no refund or credit. Refunds will not be given after a program has begun unless there is a valid medical concern or emergency. However, if the cancellation is due to the discretion of PZSC, including weather advisories or instructor illness, a partial credit will be placed into the member’s account. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in this matter. Please note that the cancellation/refund policy for travel-related reservations are handled differently.
