Thanksgiving Holiday Hours & Schedule Reminder

The Portage Zhang Senior Center will be closed from Thursday, November 27 through Sunday, November 30 for the Thanksgiving holiday. We will reopen with regular hours on Monday, December 1 at 8 AM.

Please also note: There will be no group fitness classes next week (November 24–28). Classes will resume the following week.

As we head into Thanksgiving, we are especially grateful for our members, volunteers, and community partners who help make the Senior Center such a warm and welcoming place. Thank you for being part of our community, and we wish you and your loved ones a safe and happy holiday!

Vaccine Clinic: RSV, Shingles & Pneumonia

Friday, November 21  

11 AM – 1:30 PM

 *Please bring your driver’s license or ID and insurance card to your appointment.

Advanced Health Pharmacy will be at the PZSC administering vaccines. Upon registration, you will be asked for your full name, and which vaccine you wish to receive. AHP accepts most insurances, including Medicare Part B, but they recommend bringing your Red, White and Blue card if you have one. 

 RSV: Older adults are more likely to have severe RSV and require hospitalization. This vaccine prevents against the severe form. It is recommended to get this shot anytime, but especially in the winter when cases are higher. This is a 1 dose shot for those 75+.    

Shingles: The only way to protect against shingles and postherpetic neuralgia (long-term nerve pain resulting as a complication from shingles). It is recommended to get this shot anytime. This is a 2-dose shot (second dose 2-6 months after first dose), recommended for everyone 50+. *This shot is not given in combination of any other vaccines.  

Pneumonia: Colds, Flus, or RSV can turn into pneumonia and cause complications, hospital stays, and deaths. It is recommended to get this shot anytime, but especially in the winter when flu cases are higher. The number of doses is dependent on your previous vaccination history; a new pneumonia vaccine came out in 2021 to cover broader spectrums of strains. The pharmacist will look to see which pneumonia vaccine you need to receive.  This is a 1 dose shot for those 50+.

Flourishing after 50: Women’s Health After Menopause

Facilitator: Dr. Jan Werbinski, MD, Board Certified in Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Menopause Care 

Join us for an empowering and private workshop designed exclusively for women navigating the post-menopausal years. Led by a trusted expert in women’s health and intimacy, this program creates a safe, supportive space to explore the physical and emotional changes that come with this stage of life. To ensure comfort and confidentiality, participants will have the opportunity to submit questions anonymously in advance via a QR code/ link provided to registrants. The session will be respectful and informative – providing practical tools, honest conversation, and encouragement for embracing this next chapter. Whether you’re looking for answers, reassurance, or want a chance to connect with other women, this workshop is designed to remind you that you’re not alone and that thriving beyond menopause is possible.  

*This workshop is for learning and sharing information. It is not medical advice. Please talk with your own healthcare provider about your personal health needs.

Red & Green Holiday Dance

Wednesday, December 10

5 – 7 PM

$15 Open to the Public

Kick off the holiday season with a night of music, laughter, and festive fun at our Red & Green Holiday Dance! Whether you show up in your most outlandish and gaudy holiday outfit or step out in your classiest red and green attire, the dress code is simple: wear red and/or green and get ready to party. 

Our DJ will be spinning favorite hits along with holiday classics to keep the dance floor alive all night long. Enjoy a delicious spread of food and refreshments and stop by the cash bar to try one of our festive holiday specialty cocktails crafted just for the occasion. From sparkling sequins to silly sweaters, from elegant gowns to outrageous getups; come dressed to impress, or dressed to delight, either way, you’ll be right on theme. 

Bring your friends, your dancing shoes, and your holiday spirit—this is one festive evening you won’t want to miss! Registration is required by calling (269) 329-4555.

Zen & Zest

Thursday, December 11

3 – 4 PM

$10 Members / $15 Non-Members 

Price includes 1 hour yoga session and 1 alcoholic beverage.

Join us for a delightful blend of relaxation and refreshment at this zen & zest yoga class! Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or curious beginner, this class is open for all levels, and no prior experience is necessary. This price includes a one-hour mat yoga session and one peppermint schnaps or Baileys hot cocoa drink. To register, please call (269) 329-4555.
