Historic District Commission Meeting Canceled

Holiday Card & Tree Walk Registration

Area groups, families and organizations create your own personalized seasonal "cards" for the Holiday Card walk in the Celery Flats Historical Area. Cards should depict a winter, non-denominational, holiday theme, painted on a 4’ x 8’ sheet of plywood; minimum ½ inch thick, painted white on the backside and able to withstand outdoor weather conditions. The cards will be installed in an upright (vertical) position. Cards should be delivered by November 7 and can be picked up after January 9, 2023. Any cards remaining after January 25 may be disposed of by the city. Holiday Trees are available again this year for local businesses and organizations to decorate, adding to the festive atmosphere of the Celery Flats Historical Area. Contact Portage Parks & Recreation by November 1 at (269) 329-4522 for more information and to reserve a tree (while supplies last).

City Hall Exhibition: Portage Community Art Award

Rotating exhibitions that focus on local arts and history are in the lobby at Portage City Hall throughout the year. The exhibitions are FREE to the public and are open Monday through Friday from 8 AM - 5 PM. In collaboration with the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts’ annual West Michigan Area Show (WMAS), this exhibition presents an array of works from this year’s winning Portage artist, Nancy Vanderberg whose work best represents the city’s theme, A Natural Place to Move!

Adult Ping Pong League: Session 1

Ping pong is a great low impact sport suitable for any athlete. Meet new friends in the recreational ping pong league. Two 10-week sessions are offered. *Note: The league will not meet Wednesday, November 23).

The Portage Culinary Academy offers cooking classes at Stuart Manor with area chefs. Whether you are a novice or an experienced cook, the Portage Culinary Academy has something for you. Learn from Chef Chauncey Brinn how to prepare an unforgettable Halloween party spread. This dinner will feature a skeleton cream cheese and ham loaf, with spooky sides.

Brush Collection - Zone 2

The City of Portage operates a brush collection program that includes the collection of loose brush during the months of January, May, July, and October. The program also includes the collection of Christmas trees in January and bagged leaves/ornamental grasses in May. For collection purposes, the city is divided into four collection zones.

Curbside Recycling - Week B

Through a dedicated, voter-approved millage, the Curbside Recycling Program provides for the collection of recyclable materials at the curbside.
