    Sessions 1 - 5:  Portage Parks & Recreation (320 Library Lane)

Session 6:  Schrier Park (850 West Osterhout Avenue)

Break out the binoculars, it’s time to go birding! This course is for students grades 4 and 5, ages 9 to 11, and is led by members of the Audubon Society of Kalamazoo. Learn bird basics including behavior, habitat, visual identification, birdsong identification, and migration. Participants will spend a portion of each session using binoculars to identify birds. A culminating field trip at Schrier Park will provide an opportunity to put new knowledge and skills to work during peak spring bird migration. Supplies for birding will be provided for use in the course. This program will require students to go outdoors, so weather-appropriate clothing is recommended. Scholarships are available for this program. Please call Portage Parks & Recreation for more information at (269) 329-4522.
