Raising Cane's Grand Opening Traffic Plan

Spotlights Posted on February 10, 2026

We’re excited to welcome Raising Cane’s to Portage at 6005 South Westnedge Avenue, with a grand opening set for Tuesday, February 17. This marks just the fifth Raising Cane’s location in Michigan, and we know the community is eager to check it out.

With the anticipated excitement, the already busy Westnedge Avenue and Milham Avenue intersection is expected to see increased traffic. To help keep everyone moving safely, the Portage Department of Public Safety and Department of Transportation & Utilities have developed a traffic plan that will be in place during the initial period of high traffic.

Important traffic details for Raising Cane’s customers:

  • All vehicles must enter from northbound Westnedge Avenue, using the right curb lane as a queue.
  • Motorists queued on Westnedge must not block nearby business driveways or intersections. Leave room for other cars to enter/exit adjacent lots and roadways.
  • Exiting traffic must turn right onto eastbound Milham Road, then follow Newport/Gladys to return to Westnedge.
  • Customers traveling eastbound on Milham must use Newport/Gladys to access the queue on Westnedge.
  • Northbound Westnedge through traffic should use the left lanes.

Motorists are encouraged to:

  • Avoid the area by using alternate routes
    • East/West: Romence or Kilgore
    • North/South: Oakland Drive or Lovers Lane
  • Follow all guidance shown on message boards and posted signage

The city will closely monitor traffic conditions in the area and make adjustments as needed. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we welcome a new business to Portage and work to keep traffic flowing smoothly.
