Portage Parks & Recreation to Host Stewardship Day
On Saturday, January 11, from 9 AM to 12 PM, join the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) and Michigan United Conservation Clubs (MUCC) to support the Gourdneck State Game Area, a vital public game area in the heart of Portage that fosters wildlife and vibrant ecosystems.
Throughout the activity, volunteers will remove invasive species to create space for native plants to thrive. Supplies for invasive species removal will be provided. Bring weather-appropriate clothing, work gloves, waders, and waterproof boots for working in the wetlands. Be prepared to work outside for a minimum of three hours. Lunch will be provided.
Volunteers should report at the Hampton Lake Trail entrance off Centre Avenue at the Gourdneck State Game Area. Participation in this activity is FREE, but registration is required by January 10.
