At the request of the Austin Lake Riparian Group, Solitude Lake Management will provide chemical weed treatment services on Austin Lake on Thursday, August 14. This is an Austin Lake Riparians project, and the City of Portage is providing this notice as a courtesy to the public.
According to Solitude Lake Management, weed treatment will be applied in two small areas of Austin Lake as depicted on the map below. In these application areas only, swimming is not recommended for 24 hours, and the use of lake water for irrigation is not recommended for five days. The swimming restriction will not be in effect for shoreline areas other than those depicted on the map.
The shoreline where the swimming and irrigation restrictions are in effect will be posted immediately prior to treatment on Thursday morning and a sign showing these areas will be posted at the public boat launch. These treatments are considered low-dose and should not result in any off-target issues (unintended consequences that can affect things other than the specific weeds being targeted).
