[ARCHIVED] Winter Tax Due

portage michigan flag

The 2018 winter property tax bills were mailed to City of Portage property owners on November 21, 2018. Payment for 2018 winter tax bills is due by 5 PM on Thursday, February 14, 2019. Property owners who have not received a winter tax bill by December 5, 2018 are asked to contact the Portage Treasury Office. Failure to receive a tax bill does not relieve the property owner of the responsibility for payment of the tax and applicable fees. Questions regarding tax bills may be directed to the Portage Treasury Office at 329-4455. Property tax information is updated daily and can be viewed at portagemi.gov/154.

Pay in Person at City Hall

Payments can be made at the City of Portage Treasury Office (7900 South Westnedge Avenue) in the form of cash, check, credit/debit card or money order. Payment by check authorizes the city to convert the check to an electronic funds transfer; the bank account may be debited as soon as the same day the city receives the check payment. Please be aware that credit/debit card payments will include a 3% convenience fee, charged by the vendor (Point&Pay). The Treasury Office is open Monday through Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. A 24-hour drop box is located near the south exit of City Hall; payments placed in the drop box are processed the next business day.

OnlinePaymentsPay by Phone or Online

To pay with a credit/debit card by phone, dial 1-866-270-5701. To pay with a credit/debit card online, click on the online payments icon. A 3% convenience fee is charged by the vendor (Point&Pay). Online Banking Schedule an online banking payment through your bank, using your parcel number as your account number, no later than February 7, 2019 to ensure timely delivery of funds to the City of Portage to avoid late fees.

Mail Payments to City Hall

To avoid a 3 percent late fee, mailed payments must be postmarked by the U.S. Post Office on or before February 14, 2019 and received by the city no later than February 28, 2019. In all late-payment disputes, the Portage Treasury Office will rely on the postmark applied by the Postmaster (metered postmarks are not accepted). Property owners mailing tax payments on or just before February 14 are encouraged to hand-deliver payments to the post office and witness the postmark being applied to the payment.

All 2018 property taxes that remain unpaid on March 1, 2019 will be turned over to the Kalamazoo County Treasurer for collection, and additional fees will be added. Questions regarding property tax bills may be directed to the City of Portage Treasury Office at 329-4455.
