The Portage City Council is seeking Portage adults and teens to get involved in local government by serving on a City Council Advisory Board or Commission. All boards accept applications throughout the year, however, there are immediate vacancies on the following:

  • Youth Advisory Committee            
  • Construction Board of Appeals      
  • Planning Commission                    
  • Local Officers Compensation Commission 


The Council will interview applicants on May 21, 2019.  Interested residents should submit an application by May 3, 2019. Citizens wishing to serve on an Advisory Board or Commission must be registered voters of the City of Portage - except youth.

Interested teens can serve on the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) with youth liaison options on the Environmental Board, Historic District Commission, Human Services Board, Park Board or Senior Citizen Advisory Board. Appointees to the YAC must be between the ages of 13 and 18, full-time students and residents of the City of Portage. Public, private and home-based school students are welcome!
