The Portage Park Board and its title sponsor, Honor Credit Union, will host the National Wildlife Federation Great American Campout on June 22 and 23 at Ramona Park (8600 South Sprinkle Road). Check-in begins at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, with check out at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 23. The cost is $50 per family; however, scholarships are available for families who have financial need. Pre-register by June 14.
The registration fee includes a personal campsite and a pig roast dinner prepared by Texas Corners Specialty Meats, with delicious side dishes from Brewster’s Junction. Bring your own tent or contact Lee’s Adventure Sports at 381-7700 for rental information. Evening activities include swimming, camping bingo, leaf etching, nature scavenger hunts, ranger led hikes, prizes/giveaways, a beach bonfire with s’mores and a showing of The Parent Trap under the stars, sponsored by Thermo Fisher. Intentional Yoga will lead campers in a morning session of beach yoga and a light breakfast will be provided before breaking camp.
