Save the date ... Friday, July 5. July 4th fireworks, sponsored by the Portage Rotary Club, will return to Portage at Ramona Park, 8600 South Sprinkle Road. Located on beautiful Long Lake, Ramona Park provides a significant amount of parking needed to accommodate the thousands of visitors anticipated to enjoy this beloved event.
After years of conducting the July 4th fireworks at McCamley Field on South Westnedge Avenue, the fireworks display was cancelled last year as a result of the construction of the new Portage Central High School stadium. With construction of the stadium still underway, Portage Rotary along with the City of Portage, identified Ramona Park as a suitable alternative location to conduct this very popular event. Chris Buckley, Portage Rotary President said, “Portage Rotary is so proud of its commitment to the community. The 4th of July fireworks event is the Rotary’s way of celebrating our wonderful city!”
The Portage Rotary intends to provide many family fun activities to compliment the fireworks display. The gates to Ramona Park will open at 6 PM for event parking. The fireworks show will begin at approximately 10:15 PM. Ramona Park beach will close at 4 PM. No on-street parking will be available. Patrons are advised that alcohol, pets and sparklers/consumer fireworks will not be permitted. The event is free; however, donations are encouraged so that the Portage Rotary, the sponsor of the event, can fund the fireworks annually. Should the weather not cooperate, a rain date of Saturday, July 6 has been established.
