On June 25, 2019, the Portage City Council will hold a public hearing on the proposed amendments to the sign regulations, Article 4 of Chapter 42, Zoning, of the Codified Ordinances of Portage, Michigan. The public hearing will be held at the Portage City Hall at 7 PM, or as soon thereafter as may be heard.
Consistent with the landmark US Supreme Court case known as Reed v. Town of Gilbert, the amendments revise the current sign regulations that refer to the content displayed on the sign. Additional revisions to the sign regulations are proposed to improve clarity and the organization of the ordinance. A copy of the ordinance amendment is available for review between 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday in the Department of Community Development, Portage City Hall, 7900 South Westnedge Avenue, Portage, Michigan, 49002. In addition, the ordinance amendment is included as part of the June 25, 2019 City Council meeting agenda, which can be found at portagemi.gov/610. Interested persons may also contact the Department of Community Development at 329-4477 for additional information.
