On Wednesday, July 17, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) began applying a weed and algae treatment to Long Lake in the City of Portage and Pavilion Township. The City of Portage was not given advance notice of the treatment. At the direction of EGLE, the water is not to be used for swimming on Wednesday, July 17. As a result, Ramona Park Beach is closed and is scheduled to reopen at 10 AM on Thursday, July 18, 2019.
