The Portage City Council will interview two finalists for the position of City Manager in the City Council Chambers at Portage City Hall (7900 South Westnedge Avenue) on Wednesday, August 28. The City Council will convene a special meeting at 12:30 PM. Interviews will be held with Lisa Imus, Director of Community & Economic Development for the City of Douglas, Michigan at 1 PM and 5 PM. Joseph S. La Margo, most recently the Village Manager in Orland Park, Illinois, will be interviewed by the Council at 2:15 PM and 6:15 PM. On August 20, 2019, the Council met in a special meeting to review applications from a total of ten candidates brought forward by Slavin Management Consultants of Norcross, Georgia.
The City Manager candidate interviews will be open to the public and Portage residents are encouraged to attend. Questions from the public will be accepted. “The most important duty of a City Council is hiring the best City Manager,” said Mayor Patricia Randall. “Input from an engaged citizenry is crucial to this task.”
Larry Shaffer, Portage City Manager since 2014, announced his retirement earlier this year. His last day with the City of Portage will be November 15, 2019.
