Fall Collection Reminders
Fall is in the air and it is a very busy season for the Portage Department of Public Works. Staff is hard at work preparing snow removal equipment for the coming winter while also performing the fall collection programs.
Residents are reminded to remove portable basketball stands from all city rights-of-way to allow city crews the opportunity to provide collection services, street sweeping and snow plowing without damaging collection equipment or the basketball stand itself. A safe distance to permanently position the stand is on your property, 33 feet (or more) from the center of the roadway.
Likewise, during trash and recycling removal days, citizens are asked to place containers on the curb – not on the actual roadway. At no time should bike lanes or sidewalks be obstructed by items such as leaves, brush or trash/recycling carts.
Quarterly Curbside Brush Collection Program
The next Quarterly Curbside Brush Collection will begin September 30 and includes one collection of brush in each neighborhood zone. Visit portagemi.gov/280 to view program details and determine the collection date for your neighborhood.
Fall Leaf Pickup Program
The annual Fall Leaf Pickup Program runs from October 28 through December 5 and includes three collections of loose leaves or leaves in biodegradable paper bags in each neighborhood zone. Visit portagemi.gov/282 to view program details and determine your collection dates.
Brush Drop Off Day
The City of Portage Compost Facility will be open on Saturday, October 26 from 8 AM - 12 PM for residents to drop off brush (no leaves). The compost facility is located at 10905 Oakland Drive, just south of Osterhout Avenue. This service is provided for Portage residents only; be prepared to present proof of residency (driver's license).
Please call the Department of Public Works at 329-4444 with any questions concerning the fall collection programs.
