[ARCHIVED] Winter Storm

Snowplow

The City of Portage asks residents to refrain from parking on all public streets beginning at 2 AM on Saturday, January 18, until the street has been cleared of snow. Substantial snowfall amounts are predicted for Saturday, January 18 through Sunday, January 19 and could create very hazardous road conditions. This no on-street parking request will enable Portage snowplow operations to be performed in the quickest and most efficient manner possible.

Ahead of the storm, Portage crews have pre-treated the major roadways with de-icing materials and are removing debris and leaves from storm drains and gutters to help prevent flooding from potential drizzle, freezing rain and sleet. Snowplow operators will begin 12-hour shifts starting at midnight tonight.

As this storm moves through the area, every effort will be made to keep major roads open and as clear as possible. Snowplow operators will make every attempt to provide an emergency access path on non-major roads as time and conditions permit. Once the storm ends and all major roads are cleared, snowplow operators will begin clearing interior neighborhood streets and providing access to cul-de-sacs and dead-end streets, requiring an additional 24 to 48 hours.

For additional information please contact the Department of Public Works at (269) 329-4444, Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM.
