UPDATE: May 13, 2020
The road closure of Shaver Road between West Centre Avenue and South Westnedge Avenue has been extended until May 28. In light of the extension of Governor Whitmer’s Stay Home, Stay Safe Executive Order through May 28, the contractor for this project has offered the city a significant discount to keep Shaver Road closed through that date, which will provide certain efficiencies and reduce the need for ongoing temporary lane closures. Weather permitting, all lanes on West Centre Avenue, except the eastbound left-turn lane to northbound Shaver Road, will be opened to traffic by Saturday, May 16.
#####
Shaver Road between West Centre Avenue and South Westnedge Avenue will be closed to through traffic beginning Sunday, May 3, 2020 for water main replacement activities. The signed detour for traffic will be east on South Westnedge Avenue (see attachment). The road closure is expected to be lifted by mid-May.
This work is part of a larger project on Shaver Road / South Westnedge Avenue from West Centre Avenue to Romence Road. Lane restrictions. The project includes replacement of water main and storm sewer, traffic signal and sidewalk ramp improvements, as well as new asphalt.
The City of Portage is committed to keeping the traffic flowing during the construction period. There will be periods of lane restrictions; however, access to driveways will be maintained, except for brief periods during milling and repaving operations. Traffic delays can be expected in this area. It is anticipated that construction will be completed by mid-August.
