Portage Park & Recreation kicks off summer with the first workshop of its Survival Sunday Series. The Shelter Building workshop will be held on Sunday, May 31 at 2 PM at West Lake Nature Preserve. Participants will enjoy a hands-on experience building a variety of shelters. Some of these activities are also featured in the Portage Parks & Recreation Junior Ranger program and will count towards requirements for the Survival badge. Learn how to spot the best shelter location, what materials create different shelters and how to plan for being lost. This event will take place, rain or shine, so participants are advised to dress for the weather.
The Survival Sunday Series will be conducted in a format that provides for the health and safety of participants, including social distancing and hand sanitizer. If participants are medically able, the Portage Parks & Recreation recommends wearing face coverings as well. The program is free but requires registration as it is limited to 20 people. Visit mypark.portagemi.gov to register.
