The Portage Office of the City Clerk became aware of an issue yesterday regarding the postcard applications sent to voters on our Permanent Absent Voter Application list. It was discovered that the application provided by the elections printing vendor neglected to include the City Clerk’s return address on the reverse side of the application. We have already spoken with staff at the Portage Post Office who plan to continue delivering returned applications to the City Clerk.
In an effort to correct this issue, the printing vendor mailed new applications (with a return address included) today, which should arrive in the mail in the next few days. Recipients of the initial postcard application have two options:
1) Write in the City Clerk’s return address - 7900 S. Westnedge Avenue, Portage MI 49002 - and mail it in, or
2) Shred the first application and utilize the corrected application when it arrives.
While not ideal, staff are working through the matter. Safeguards are in place to ensure voters do not receive more than one ballot. Please call the City Clerk’s Office at 329-4511 with questions.
