Experience an atmosphere of remembrance, hope, happiness and community at the first-ever Night Lights Water Lantern Festival. At this family-friendly event, you’ll help light up the lake in a way you’ll never forget while honoring and remembering loved ones or floating words of hope and encouragement across the water.
Lantern kits, including a floating lantern to launch on the water and a marker to decorate your lantern, will be distributed to each registered participant beginning at 6:30 PM. Enjoy a picnic dinner (bring your own) at Ramona Park or enjoy food purchased from the Ramona Park Beach concession stand (until 7:30 PM) while you decorate your lantern. Finish your meal with complimentary ice cream for each registered participant. Music to enhance the evening will be performed by Chris Behre. At 8 PM, launch your lantern and experience the magic of the soft lights reflecting upon the waters of Long Lake. To avoid impacting the environment, Portage Parks & Recreation will retrieve all of the lanterns from the lake after the festival.
Participation is limited to 100 people due to social distancing requirements. Registration is required for each person wishing to attend. Visit mypark.portagemi.gov and click on the Recreation Activities & Facility Rentals button. The registration deadline is Wednesday, September 2 at 5 PM.
