The Portage Youth Advisory Committee, in cooperation with the Portage Environmental Board and Park Board, will host the 13th annual Green-A-Thon to celebrate Earth Day. This year Green-A-Thon will pair with a first-ever sneak peek of the Portage Farmers Market! To make this unique event happen, Green-A-Thon will have a new location and day - in front of City Hall (7900 South Westnedge) on Sunday, April 25 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The free event will feature music, giveaways and games. Representatives from local organizations and businesses will provide education on environmental ideas for home or business. Portage Farmers Market food and drink vendors will be on hand with refreshments. All COVID-19 safety protocols, including facemasks and social distancing, will be followed. Parking is available in the northeast portion of the Portage First Reformed Church and at the Portage Senior Center.
The Portage Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) was created by the Portage City Council in 2008 to give students an opportunity to share ideas and participate in local government. The YAC is hosting this event to raise awareness of environmental issues affecting the citizens of Portage and provide opportunities to become more ecologically friendly.
