Construction will begin on West Centre Avenue from 12th Street to Oakland Drive on July 16, 2018, weather permitting. This section of West Centre Avenue will undergo improvements consisting of milling the existing pavement, installation of concrete curb and gutter, sidewalk ramps, the extension of island boulevard left-turn pockets in select locations, new sidewalk installation on the south side from Old Centre Avenue to Oakland Drive, pedestrian push buttons at crosswalks, new traffic signals at Oakland Drive and repaving.
The City of Portage is committed to keeping the traffic flowing during the construction period. Lane restrictions will occur; however, access to most driveways will be maintained, except for brief periods during milling and repaving operations. Some driveways will require temporarily closure during construction. Access will be maintained via cross connections with adjacent properties and intersecting side streets.
Traffic delays can be expected in the construction area; through traffic is advised to use alternate routes. It is anticipated that construction will be substantially complete by September 28, 2018, weather and materials permitting.
