2022 Green-A-Thon & Sneak Peek Farmers Market
The Portage Youth Advisory Committee, in cooperation with the Portage Environmental Board and Park Board, will host the 14th annual Green-A-Thon to celebrate Earth Day. This FREE event will include a sneak peek of the Portage Farmers Market! Green-A-Thon will take place in front of City Hall (7900 South Westnedge Avenue) on Sunday, May 1 from 11 AM – 3 PM. Parking is available in the eastern portion of the Portage First Reformed Church parking lot, Comerica Bank, and the Portage Senior Center.
Games, activities, giveaways and representatives from local organizations and businesses will be on hand to provide information about environmental ideas to use at home or work. Food and drink vendors will be available through the Portage Farmers Market. Giveaways include 250 tree seedlings of Dogwood, Sugar Maples and Eastern Redbuds.
Environmentally focused exhibitors include the Kalamazoo Conservation District, Fresh Thyme Market, Clean Air Lawn Care, Kalamazoo Area Wild Ones, Kalamazoo County Household Hazardous Waste Center, Kalamazoo Electric Vehicle Association, Kalamazoo Valley Habitat for Humanity, New Earth Solar, Schupan Recycling, and others.
The Portage Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) was created by the Portage City Council in 2008 to give students an opportunity to share ideas and participate in local government. The YAC presents this annual event to raise awareness of environmental issues affecting the citizens of Portage and provide opportunities to become more ecologically friendly.
