The Governor’s Own 126th Army Band Set to Perform at Overlander Bandshell
Portage Parks & Recreation welcomes the Governor’s Own 126th Army Band of the Michigan National Guard to the Summer Concert Series this Thursday, June 30 at 7 PM. The event takes place at the Overlander Bandshell (7810 Shaver Road).
The band is commanded by Chief Warrant Officer Three, Kimberly Ferrante of Lake Orion. The First Sergeant is Andrew Schwallier from Grand Rapids and the Drum Major is Staff Sergeant Chris Hurban from Portage. During the performance, the band will break into smaller groups to include a Brass Band, Rock Band, Ceremonial Band, and Jazz Combo. Bring a chair or blanket and don't forget to leave a little room for busting a move.
Parking will be available at City Hall (7900 South Westnedge Avenue), First Reformed Church (7905 South Westnedge Avenue), Portage Community Center (325 East Centre Avenue), and Comerica Bank (7941 South Westnedge Avenue) starting at 5 PM. A drop-off loop will be available at Central Park (7810 Shaver Road) for those with mobility issues. There is limited ADA parking onsite.
Admission is FREE to the Summer Concert Series thanks to the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo. No ticket or registration is required. Check the Facebook event @CityofPortageMI for updates.
