The Portage Department of Public Safety – Fire Division is teaming up with the National Fire Protection Association® to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Fire Prevention Week, October 9 - 15, 2022. This year’s FPW campaign theme Fire won’t wait. Plan your escape, works to educate everyone about simple but important actions they can take to keep themselves and those around them safe from home fires.   Below are some tips on how to plan your escape.

  • Different homes have different fire escape plans.
  • When creating your escape plan, remember to have a clear path to your exits.
  • When creating your escape plan, remember to plan for your individual family members and their abilities.
  • When creating your escape plan, remember to include two ways out of every room.
  • When creating your escape plan, remember to include an outside meeting place a safe distance from your home where everyone should meet.
  • Protect your loved ones by planning your escape and creating your fire escape plan.
