Block Parties are a great way to bring your neighborhood together! They can vary from a simple gathering of a few folks sharing food and drink, to elaborate, highly organized events involving dozens of neighbors.
If alcoholic beverages are served, it must be done in compliance with local ordinances and state law.
To Apply:
Select a date for the event: Determine the day the neighborhood wants to close the road for a party (remember the ordinance times).
Contact your neighbors: Closing the road can be an inconvenience - get permission from the majority of the neighbors to have the party. The application includes a petition section for signatures from at least 51 percent of the households on the subject road.
Submit an application
City staff review the application: normal processing time is approximately 5 to 7 business days (excluding city holidays). The applicant will be contacted.
Inquire about street barricades: if the application is approved, you can work with the city to close the road on the day of the event.
Street Barricades
Barricades are available through the Department of Public Works. Street access must be made available for emergency vehicles at all times. Applicants are responsible for picking up and returning barricades to the Public Works building at 7710 South Westnedge Avenue (next to Central Cemetery).
